Poetry Perfection

11/02/2013

Grade 4s are luxuriating in a pool of poetry. We are appreciating poems, finding favorites for our anthologies, getting to know poets, writing and reciting. We are exploring similes and metaphors, alliteration and personification, free verse and cinquains, rhyme and rhythm and much more!  Plans are in the pipeline in each classroom for sharing our learning later this month.

So get ready for poetry performances par excellence!

Grade 4 are planning actions! For 5 weeks they have been delving into children’s rights and responsibilities and now they are all planning actions to improve the rights of less fortunate children than themselves. Urav wanted to raise awareness about children who do not have the right to go to school. He has designed a website for this and intends to add to it throughout his year in Grade 4. He says that he ” wants to get more people to help and support children’s rights to education across the globe”.

Grade 4’s Assembly (Nov 30, 2012)

03/12/2012

On Friday, Nov. 30th grade 4 performed a thought provoking assembly on Children’s Rights and Responsibilities. The students wrote and performed dialogue poems based on children around the world they had researched. They shared the story of Iqbal Masih, a child activist.

Here are some reactions from those who saw the performance:

  • I have to thank you for bringing many important issues to light in such a public way.
  • On return to the classroom, your assembly generated discussion for the entire next period.
  • Our class was very moved by your assembly today.
  • The entire staging of the assembly was intense and carried the right tone and message.
